What is Online Personal Training?

Working with a personal trainer online is not massively different from seeing a trainer face to face during a One-to-One session or a Partner session.  Of course, the biggest difference is the variety of equipment but does that mean you can't get results... Absolutely not.


Motivation, accountability, consistency & tailored individual coaching are the key factors that allow people working with trainers the ability to gain better results. This doesn't go away just because you're not in the same room as your trainer.

Why have a personal trainer vs just following all the free online workouts?

When it comes to having an online trainer vs simply performing online workout videos, of course any form of activity is going to assist you in moving towards a goal, however, the benefits of working with a coach are lost when it comes to simply watching a recorded video.


Motivation usually comes from interaction with a trainer that can tailor sessions around your likes/dislikes, abilities, how you're feeling that day & your specific goals...a video can't do that.


Accountability comes in the form of conversations around your habits & behaviours and working WITH you to move you closer to your goal...a video can't do that.


Consistency comes when you have a regular appointment booked that you're not likely to cancel because another human being is waiting for you and wanting you to get to your goal, sometimes more than you do...a video can't do that

I don't have loads of gym equipment or space, can I still have an online trainer?

Absolutely, that's the beauty of it.  You can still achieve results even without having your own home gym or having access to loads of equipment.  In fact, the majority of people I work with don't have any equipment but we still work hard and achieve great results. 


Sessions are comprised of weekly nutrition & habit-coaching conversations (which are where the majority of results are gained) plus, practical exercise tailored to your goals.


Regarding the practical aspects, those without equipment will focus on bodyweight-based structured sessions which drive you towards your goal.  If you do have any equipment, great, we can simply utilise anything you have available to aid in your progression.


The main things you'll need are:

 

  • a decent internet connection for smooth video viewing.
  • a small space to move. One metre square is fine but anything more is a bonus.  All exercises can be adapted to what you have available.

I've been a client of Joe's for a few years now, being able to continue our 1 2 1 sessions online during the multiple lockdown experiences have been massively important to me. To be able to carry on training with his help, support and guidance, just as we would in a personal setting has not really been any different what so ever! Ok he is a little smaller on screen but all the same advice, motivation and encouragement is there as before. He has catered my home workouts to include all the equipment I have at home although no equipment is needed as we have done on several sessions purely body weight exercises, which are as demanding and and enjoyable as using any equipment available. The only difference has been the setting, I get to complete the sessions without leaving the house and you do not need masses of space to complete them either. Joe always does his homework with his clients into see what space is available and will always cater to that to make sure the training is adaptable and safe. Joe has been helping with my fitness since Jan 2020 and then Covid happened!! Since then I have enjoyed online fitness sessions at home and it works really well.
