When I first began my coaching sessions with Joe, he really helped me bring clarity to my goals. We were then able to use those to check in with progress over the course of the 12 sessions. At the time I was training for a half marathon which I have subsequently run and smashed my PB by 11 and half minutes! I started training with Joe to lose weight and generally get fitter and stronger ahead of a once in a lifetime surf trip. We had an initial consultation where we talked through what I hoped to achieve, and he started to diagnose where I might be going wrong, asking pertinent questions about my nutrition and exercise history and what I liked/disliked. With simple food adjustments and a few training sessions, I started to notice weight loss within weeks. 


The coaching was always fun and varied. I had been stuck in a rut, using the same equipment in the gym every session but Joe took the time to show me how to use a variety of equipment such that going to the gym became a much more fun experience. My overall strength and fitness has improved hugely in a relatively short space of time and I am now confident enough to perform exercises I would previously shied away from. Initially I was quite apprehensive at the thought of having a personal trainer but Joe was really friendly, helpful, encouraging and knowledgeable. Every session is different and surprisingly enjoyable! After each session I felt I had worked hard but always felt energised by the sessions. MyPremCoach has been an amazing breakthrough for me, I have tried the diet clubs and various apps joined with going to the gym which was great and I got results but quickly I found myself slipping back in to my bad habits and before I knew it, gaining the weight I had lost.


I had heard about people having a personal trainer and at a quick glance online you see the typical super fit humans, body builders, boxers etc and the horrific idea of having long sessions of blood sweat and tears to reach your goals along with the protein shakes, juices etc which realistically again for someone just wanting to lose weight and be able to maintain it and a healthy lifestyle, I didn’t really think of it as something for me and quickly put the idea out of my head.


Anyhow, after some googling, I came across mypremcoach and I thought what can I lose, I will give him a call and see what it is all about. I left a message and Joe called me back. I was very nervous returning the call again just thinking what have I got myself into and panic of what he would think, would I be too unfit, would there be a class of super fit people already further down the line than me that I would be working along side etc etc... anyhow I agreed to meet up, a free one time trial to see what is all about.


Anyway, short story.... I have never looked back!


Joe has been amazing. He took us at face value, asked us what we wanted to achieve and what our goals were. He said he would tailor the journey based on what we wanted to achieve, if we wanted to be models then he would work on achieving those goals.


After the initial talks, I was then thinking ok so here comes the salad diet plan to lose weight... but I couldn’t be more wrong. Joe showed us the best food options to achieve our goals and what would keep us energised throughout the day but keep us on track so rather than following a strict diet plan we had that choice to make to sculpt it into a lifestyle we could maintain for years to come against something that wouldn’t last.


Looking at the food elements alone has been a huge eye opener. Foods you take for granted as a small snack quickly mount up in your daily intake and I quickly learnt to look at the numbers, make better choices so I was working within my daily allowances and really easily maintaining a deficit.


Combined with this, we meet twice a week for live sessions, either online or face to face. The first half of the hour is gathering measurements, going over achievements of the week and looking ahead to the following week and planning for any possible obstacles there may be. I had no idea that these talks would be one of the most important parts of training. It creates the idea in your head before events happen so you can pre-plan and also puts you in the mindset for the week to stick to your plan and look forward to sharing results next session. Even when I was too exhausted to do the physical side of the session, Joe took the time to break down the week and find out why energy levels were low and how to choose better options, make better decisions to keep on track. He has a vast knowledge of how the body works and can explain those 'why' questions you have. You may be tired in a day or want to comfort eat but he will take the time to discuss these with you and see the reasons so you can try to avoid the circumstance again or recognise it before it re-occurs.


You may say why would you opt to pay for sessions when you can just choose a workout off YouTube? Yes you can that’s true and I have been through the same, however you can’t stop a video and ask it questions, or ask the trainer to tone up or tone down the intensity of the exercise. Say that’s not working for me or for him to be able to check you are doing the exercise correctly to maximum effects and change it if necessary to work specifically for you.


Joe closely monitors you as you workout to check you are constantly pushing yourself forward and achieving which is something you don’t get from working out alone or just going to a gym week on week. Its not just about breaking a sweat, the exercises are different each week and each time you feel a different set of muscles working and therefore overall concentrating on the whole body. Even the workout itself I was dreading, however quickly again I realised that the session was for me and I could work at a pace that I could maintain.


This doesn’t mean I can relax of course as that’s not the idea, but knowing each exercise was for a set time and also having the encouragement to stick at it and a golden countdown to know you are nearly there and to hang in there! I quickly surprised myself at what I could do when given the opportunity. Moves and stretches I thought were for the seasoned athlete I could suddenly do.


Quickly on my journey, I found my body changing. Not always about the weight as the shift from fat to muscle wont necessarily change the scales much. I learnt not to just watch the scales, go by how you feel and what clothes feel like. Typically not what you are told by diets but again... it is true! Even when my weight hadn’t changed much I was able to see clothes hanging off me where they had been tight and week on week taking measurements my graph of progress continues to drop down towards my goals.


I believe the main thing for me overall is the human element, having that personal experience where everything is tailored to you. Having the face to face discussions about real life up-to-the-minute obstacles and discover ways around them. There is always a solution even when you are looking at sleep patterns or why you default to eating when you are not hungry there are many excellent conversations to have that really open your mind and make you look at it from a different perspective. Also Joe goes above and beyond to take the time between sessions to encourage extra activity and keep you feeling good until the next meeting. Without this you can again easily find an excuse to let the side down and get off track but having that little nudge or knowing you are accountable is enough to keep you going.


I have continued to do online coaching throughout lockdown via Skype and it has really been an essential focus for me keeping above all the negativity in the world and continuing to make me feel the best I can be so as to inspire others to do the same. I am only at the start of my journey but still as motivated as ever to continue and push through until I find that new me I have always wanted but never found the time. Mypremcoach has made me realise that there really is never any excuse not to exercise and eat well and find time for yourself and make you feel good, the real issue is finding that someone or something that can personally show you this and help you achieve and make it a reality.

Joe listened closely to what I wanted and explored the nuances i was trying to convey until he could build a workout and nutrition plan specifically for me.


I gained muscle size and dropped both body fat and weight, particularly around my waist from the nutrition side.  My clothes were loose.


Joe was always able to adapt workouts if I wanted to do something different or try something out, plus was always on hand at the gym or by text to advise and support when I found it tough, again particularly with nutrition. He's very very knowledgeable about macros and designing a meal plan with you, checking for both physical and non physical effects such as energy levels and hunger pangs. Several times we revised what I could eat so suit my work schedule. 


For me PT is about intensity- getting a program sorted then beasting me in different ways to keep it interesting and to make me do things in an hour I wouldn't push myself to do.

  We have just completed 12 weeks and cannot praise it enough. David lost a stone in the 12 weeks and I lost over 10 lbs, just in time for summer. We found it a real eye opener and a lifestyle changer. The food that we thought was healthy was actually helping us gain weight. We learnt about the fact that too many carbs can be bad for you and to up our protein levels. Once this information sunk in, meal times are easy. The weight literally drops off without even thinking about it. Eating 5 times a day, means it feels like you are eating more, feeling fuller for longer and losing weight at the same time.


The main advantage is that it has educated the whole family. What we learnt on the course, we passed on to our children who now eat much healthier – less cereals and pasta and they are delighted that cooked breakfasts are on the menu! We had previously thought that slogging on the running machine for hours was the best way to keep healthy and burn fat, but it turns out that small sessions of resistance exercises, interval training and variety is far better for you and, it turns out, less boring! I’ve been coached by Joe for 7 months and have not only enjoyed the experience but have achieved fantastic results. I went to him expecting a great work out program, but I got so much more. There was sound nutritional advice which meant I changed my diet in small ways, feeling no real hardship, but started to see a real difference in my physique. There were also pep talks and support to keep me going when I was feeling disheartened, lots of great advice on dealing with everyday situations that have the potential to conflict with your goals and of course those fantastic workouts and exercise programs. Throughout my time with Joe I found him to be really encouraging, pushing me when I was ready to move on a stage but most of all I felt he always had my specific goal in mind and really wanted me to achieve it.


As a result, I have developed muscle tone and definition beyond my dreams, especially in my arms and shoulders which have always been a weak point for me. I have not only achieved my goal but have far exceeded it – I wanted to drop a dress size but am well on my way to dropping 3! Something I never would have thought possible and definitely would never have achieved without Joe.

I’ve also learned a lot about the nutritional sides of training too. The biggest change I have noticed is that my shoulders are stronger, so I don’t get really any pain anymore when doing activities that involve putting strain on them. Also I don’t avoid activities and feel okay about using my shoulders. Alongside other changes like having more energy day to day and losing weight.

Having struggled for a while at the gym and not seeing any real changes, I decided to use you as a Personal Trainer after your wise comment- treat it as an investment in your body. This made sense, as although one can buy an expensive outfit, the real issue is how you feel in it. The thought of investing in myself motivated me further to achieve my goals. 


The benefits were clear each week. I was more aware of pushing myself in each session, which in turn assisted me during other classes at the gym. I gained more stamina and pace through your guidance.

Nearly a year ago I weighed over 12 stone, was a size 14, & my fitness regime consisted of just playing hockey & training weekly. I then started training with Joe. Through his encouragement & guidance with fitness & nutrition, in addition to training weekly with him I now go to circuits twice a week, weekly kettlebell classes & weekly Metafit training, as well as still playing hockey. The occasional Parkrun is thrown in too! Through my hard work I now have more stamina & energy. I found the coaching experience with Joe to be challenging and enjoyable. Joe has a good mix of pushing you to reach your potential and being supportive with it, so you feel encouraged.

 I was a typical yo-yo dieter, finding it a struggle to ever lose the extra pounds which were making me feel so uncomfortable. I often had bad eating habits with busy shift work and I had stopped feeling as healthy as I had been.


I was very keen to lose weight, improve fitness and general health and wellbeing. So far I have lost almost 2 stone and dropped 2 dress sizes, this weight loss continues. Joe was my personal trainer between October 2013 and February 2014. During this period, after being given the choice by Joe, my training was centred around boxing training. Although this initially sounds restrictive and repetitive, Joe’s knowledge and experience ensured each lesson was different and at no time did I feel any training was repetitive. Each lesson was varied and different exercises were introduced weekly. I found the training demanding, progressive, but ultimately very enjoyable.


The most obvious changes I have noticed are weight loss and stamina. Over the period of time I was with Joe, I felt my stamina levels increase dramatically. The stamina level increase was evident in the gym when training with Joe and alone in group exercise. It was evident during my training with Joe that as the weeks progressed he had gradually increased the interval times of exercise and reduced the rest periods in between. This noticeable stamina increase was not just in the gym, but also in my work and home life.


The main benefit of having Joe as a trainer was not just the physical training aspect he provided, but also the subtle changes to your home and work life that make a significant difference. For example, the importance of water intake throughout the day was explained and the guidance of an appropriate diet throughout the day to maintain and balance blood sugar levels. The lifestyle changes suggested by Joe are now a part of my daily routine and require minimal thought or effort; however they have made a considerable difference to my daily energy levels.

An additional benefit of having Joe as a trainer was not just the lifestyle changes, but also the numerous new exercises learnt during my time with him. I now have a new variety of exercises that I use when training alone or with friends. The exercises I have learnt from Joe have provided me with the opportunity to have a variable training session in the gym which I find more enjoyable.


I would have no hesitation in recommending Joe as a personal trainer for others. The results were noticeable very quickly in respect of weight loss and stamina levels. I thought Joe was a great coach. I've had a few different trainers before and not felt as relaxed as I did with Joe and he made me enjoy going, which I've always seen exercise as a chore.

I have been following the healthy eating plan too. I have found it really good for my stomach (as a Crohns sufferer). I have increased my fruit and veg intake, am cooking a lot more and reduced my carbs. I played badminton yesterday and noticed I felt fitter. I also am able now to push myself in the classes as I know I can! I have only been doing this for 2 ½ weeks but have felt generally better, fitter and healthier. I want to keep it up. I found your coaching to be extremely helpful in motivating me to push harder with things in the gym and to know that I needed to be working at 80-90% to really start to get the results that I was looking to achieve.


The changes that I noticed were that my fitness was definitely improving and I was losing weight from my tummy as well as gaining both strength and muscle - this was proved by the Boditrax machine showing my bodyfat going from 20% down to 15% which was what I was aiming for!


The benefits were having a fixed date every week as I always knew I would have to work really hard in that hour and also that it was on every week so I always booked my work in around that, plus the fact that you were always there encouraging me to keep at it.

The training i received from Joe in both group and one to one situations was of a really high standard. Joe is a focused and professional trainer who can get the best out of you and the exercise regime that you are undertaking. I have had trainers before Joe but, the focus on the training and what you can achieve has never been as high a quality. I also fell pregnant while i was having exercise sessions which i thought would make the gym off limits to me. Joe guided me to show that this was not the case at all - he put together a new routine for me and showed me the equipment and exercises that i was still able to use. I have had a very easy pregnancy and I genuinely believe that this has been aided by being given the confidence to continue training in the right way during the early to mid-stages of my pregnancy.


As a result of training, my stamina improved as did my technique and my knowledge of what to do inside the gym in order to gain the results that I was looking for.


Having a trainer keeps you very focused on your routine, and keeps you more motivated than when you train alone. Joe also set goals week on week so that you had bitesize targets to reach and I felt that this kept me motivated and made me feel that I was slowly improving week on week.

When I started with Joe in Feb/March I wanted to tone up, losing weight was not my aim. However, since I started I have gone down a dress size! I have definitely toned up and feel so much fitter and healthier.

I used to row to a high standard but over the last few years fitness has dropped. I decided this year to compete in a single scull so have spent the Winter trying to build fitness back up to the point where I could race. The personal training has pushed me to achieve more (Beth)

I enjoy the variety that personal training gives. It means I don’t have to think about a session and plan it after a busy day at work and more often than not I use muscles I don’t normally doing my own routine.


Self-confidence is probably the most dramatic improvement though. My body has also changed beyond recognition and I don’t have bits that move on the treadmill that shouldn’t!! (Lisa)

  For the past 5 years I have been battling against weight gain, dropping fitness levels and lower and lower self-esteem. Prior to this I was fit, healthy and a comfortable 9 1/2 stone, I had a good exercise regime of running and a healthy, low fat diet.


My weight gain and fitness decline started when I was confirmed as having the BRCA 1 gene mutation, which didn’t really come as a surprise for me as I’ve watched several of my female family members bravely battle but finally lose their lives to the dreadful disease that is breast cancer.


I decided to address my genetic situation head on and take preventative action and I underwent several surgical operations over a period of 6 months to firstly remove, and then reconstruct my breasts. The combination of the surgery and the mental impact knocked me sideways, but I also felt an enormous sense of relief that I had made the right decision for myself, my husband and my two teenage children.


Within a year of the completion of my surgery I was then diagnosed with Thyroid disease (Graves) whereby I had to undergo irradiation of my thyroid and then lifelong medication of Thyroxine to replace the function of my thyroid. This is where the severe decline took hold. Within 6 months I had gained 3 stones in weight. I suffered some hair loss, my energy levels were pretty much non-existent, it took enormous effort to even get out of bed of a morning and I would be asleep on the sofa by mid-evening. With such rapid weight gain, none of my clothes fitted me, which as every woman will know, is soul destroying. So at my lowest ebb, I knew I had to stop being a victim of circumstance and get back in control of my life.


As soon as I started to exercise, albeit haphazard, I started to feel mentally better and I could feel a level of motivation returning, but it felt a very slow process.


Then, what I now look back on as my turning point; was my chat with Joe Newbold Master Trainer. He asked me about my goals and suggested the One to One PT sessions, including advice on diet and lifestyle. I had initially felt that the exercising I was doing at the gym alone was sufficient to produce the results I was looking for; how mistaken I was.


Within the first month of One to One sessions, I noticed significant changes in my body shape and my frame of mind. My ‘fat’ clothes were already satisfyingly loose, the sense of well-being after the sessions was hugely rewarding. With Joe in control of putting together my programme, then giving me instruction, I can concentrate on putting 100% effort into the exercise and Joe ensures that my work rate stays exactly where it should be to deliver those results.


I can say with complete confidence that Joe, through the One to One PT sessions, has delivered the results I was desperately searching for. I have regained my self-esteem and finally, the control of my own destiny (Jo)

I found the personal training very helpful in terms of focusing on a proper complete lifestyle regime. It included nutritional advice, healthy lifestyle advice and a huge range of exercises which could be done both in the gym and outside.


As a result of the personal training I noticed that I was better able to do the classes that I enjoyed and felt fitter from the additional challenges as well as the nutritional changes I made.


A personal trainer keeps you focused on your aims and challenges you to push yourself as hard as you can to achieve those aims. As they get to know you and your abilities they know how far they can safely push you which is not always possible in a class situation.

Finding Joe nestled out in the beautiful East Devon Countryside has been a life saver. I thoroughly enjoyed my one to one coaching sessions and feel they have greatly benefited my understanding, mainly on how to improve my diet and general way of life! Your advice was very encouraging and helpful, which was again supported by the information provided. Chats at the end of the session allowed small changes to be made weekly which have now (hopefully) become habits that I will continue with for life!

Initially I wasn't the fittest of people which meant the gym environment was quite daunting. I wanted some one-to-one coaching to help me improve my fitness with someone there to motivate me and make sure I was concentrating on the right areas for the goals I wanted to achieve. I was apprehensive to begin with but Joe from the outset made me feel at ease and went out of his way to make sure I was getting the most out of my sessions. Included within the sessions was great nutritional advice and I soon realised that the nutritional side of things was just as important as the fitness side.

 

My overall attitude to food has changed and I find I now choose the healthier options without having to put much thought into it, it's pretty much second nature thanks to the information given to me by Joe. Along with this my fitness levels have definitely improved and I now enjoy doing other activities outside of the gym as well including cycling to work regularly which I previously would not have felt confident in doing.

In terms of feedback, I was impressed with your overall knowledge of both fitness and nutrition. Having personally qualified as a personal trainer, I am in a great position to assess the quality of your service.

 

Your communication skills are first class and effective. You were motivational and listened to feedback, refining a session if appropriate.

 

Every session was different which I liked and I was pushed to the limit.


In terms of improvements, my maximum heart rate has increased by around 10 beats per minute. My recovery time has improved. In terms of the 4 x 1 minute tests my numbers improved markedly (Burpees 24 to 30, Push Ups 35 to 56, Jumping Lunges 46 to 66, Plank Knee Raises 64 to 130)

We had joined the gym a few weeks before we met Joe but not really benefiting from it as we were plodding along at our own pace. Joe came to ask if we needed help as we were puzzling over a particular piece of equipment. We enlisted Joe's help after a trial session and immediately felt more motivated.

I really enjoyed the personal training sessions with Joe. I don't normally weigh myself and didn't want the emphasis to be on weight rather a change in lifestyle. The sessions challenged me but were just right for my level of fitness I was pushed to do more than I would by myself. I really enjoyed the coaching with you, and feel much more positive about it now considering what a sceptic I was at the outset. What was important was you introduced us to new bits of equipment and ways of exercising which suited me better than had I just turned up at the gym and attacked the equipment myself. Whilst we were away we did a lot of walking, clocking up around 14km on most days, and the time in the gym certainly helped prepare for this.

From my initial trial PT session with Joe I felt comfortable and confident that I was in good hands. Joe’s vast knowledge and passion for fitness and living a healthy lifestyle was infectious and inspiring. 


Every session was varied and demanding and also surprisingly enjoyable! Joe has excellent motivational skills and just the right amount of pushing to my personal limits. We even managed to have a few laughs along the way! 


The main changes I have noticed after 3 months of training, usually two sessions a week, are more than just physical. I feel stronger than ever and more confident than I’ve felt in years. We measured my progress every two weeks using Boditrax and a tape measure and I am thrilled with the dramatic results I achieved.

I started my first experience of personal training with some trepidation and therefore I found your first session very useful. Taking time to discuss and understand my goals and challenges was important and I felt comfortable that the sessions would be tailored to my needs. 


I had reached a stage where regular exercise was not improving my overall fitness any further. I wanted instruction on training methods and techniques that would help me develop this. Although my wife ensures we have an excellent diet, I am prone to snacking in the evening and paying less attention to breakfast and lunch. With the support of coming in to our sessions and describing my eating habits, I am now regularly eating a healthy breakfast and a more appropriate lunchtime choice. Cutting down on tea during the day and replacing this with water is also improving.

You really are 'Mr Motivator' as I usually have the staying power of a sieve around matters of diet and exercise. I looked forward to the sessions which pleasantly surprised me. Absolutely loved the coaching with yourself. You listen to anything I said and really took on board my body issues and also gave me options on what we wanted to do that day which was nice and really helped with my confidence getting into the gym myself especially the resistance area and now in love with the smith machine. I loved and really learnt the nutrition side and stuck your presentation on the front of my fridge which helps me a lot, so thank you for that.

My favourite part of having you as a coach has definitely been doing boxing. As something I have never done before, I never knew how much I would enjoy it but I have loved it. Your combination of boxing and other strength and conditioning exercises has worked perfectly for me and meant I’ve been able to build muscle in all areas of my body.

I have been seeing Joe as my personal trainer at David Lloyd for just over a year, in that time I have lost approx. a stone in weight.


Apart from the physical exercise training tips, I have learned an enormous amount about how to eat and drink healthily, which food to eat, how much to eat and how much to drink.


Joe has been a point of reference for any question and never looked bored or impatient at my endless (and quite often repetitive) questions. 


Not for a second was Joe's mood variable and he provided an extremely comfortable safe environment to weigh myself regularly, and not feel belittled at the result - I always left every single session encouraged.

Joe was my personal trainer between October 2013 and February 2014. During this period, after being given the choice by Joe, my training was centred around boxing training. Although this initially sounds restrictive and repetitive, Joe’s knowledge and experience ensured each lesson was different and at no time did I feel any training was repetitive. Each lesson was varied and different exercises were introduced weekly. I found the training demanding, progressive, but ultimately very enjoyable.


The most obvious changes I have noticed are weight loss and stamina. Over the period of time I was with Joe, I felt my stamina levels increase dramatically. The stamina level increase was evident in the gym when training with Joe and alone in group exercise. It was evident during my training with Joe that as the weeks progressed he had gradually increased the interval times of exercise and reduced the rest periods in between. This noticeable stamina increase was not just in the gym, but also in my work and home life.


The main benefit of having Joe as a trainer was not just the physical training aspect he provided, but also the subtle changes to your home and work life that make a significant difference. For example, the importance of water intake throughout the day was explained and the guidance of an appropriate diet throughout the day to maintain and balance blood sugar levels. The lifestyle changes suggested by Joe are now a part of my daily routine and require minimal thought or effort; however they have made a considerable difference to my daily energy levels.

An additional benefit of having Joe as a trainer was not just the lifestyle changes, but also the numerous new exercises learnt during my time with him. I now have a new variety of exercises that I use when training alone or with friends. The exercises I have learnt from Joe have provided me with the opportunity to have a variable training session in the gym which I find more enjoyable.


I would have no hesitation in recommending Joe as a personal trainer for others. The results were noticeable very quickly in respect of weight loss and stamina levels. In addition to this, I have taken valuable information from Joe about the adaptation of some of my former lifestyle habits that have had such a positive impact in a short space of time (Dave)

  A life changing moment when I fell from a horse onto the road, breaking my pelvis and smashing my hip joint. After a seven hour operation to have it pinned and plated, I was told I may never be able to ride a horse again


My goals were to ride a horse again and to lose some weight and to regain some fitness. All of these I have achieved and am now riding again 3 times a week (Phil)
